Moving Away From tumblr… sort of. Announcing allthesamebeer.com

Greetings folks. As I mentioned in my previous post, I will return to beer reviews on Sunday, when I will be having a special birthday beer week, and will be doing seven reviews of beers I have been saving for the grand occasion. I also mentioned in my last post about some upcoming changes. Here’s an explanation.

I like tumblr, but as you probably know, it has some limitations. One big one is the search function — tumblr search flat out sucks. Seriously, try it. Type in ‘Founders’ in the search box. You get ZERO results, and I’ve reviewed approximately ELEVEN beers brewed by the Founders Brewing Company!

Enjoying a tasty SweetWater IPA (91 points) while writing this post.

The other major drawback to tumblr are the comments. I’ve met some good and interesting people on tumblr, and would love to interact more freely with them, but it is impossible to comment with any regularity on tumblr. It seems like I can comment on some blogs, others I can only ‘like’ stuff. In my last post, a couple of people wished me a happy birthday. I would have liked to reply back with a thank you, but I can’t even post comments to my own blog.

Enough of making this a bitch session about tumblr. Here’s what I’m going to do about it:

I am not leaving tumblr. This tumblr, and allthesamesong.com, the site’s current address, will remain. I will still post beer reviews here. Back in October 2010 when I started this blog, I intended to write about all kinds of stuff, including beer. Well…I got more into the beer reviews and committed to that full time.

It seems to me that another website is necessary. So I’ve decided to open a second site — allthesamebeer.com — for my beer reviews. This blog is maintained with Wordpress, and is just more suited to what I want to do when it comes to beer. You can search for things. People can comment more freely. You can organize reviews by beer style, or point total, or brewery. I like that you can click my pictures and review sheet and enlarge them with little effort. Go check it out: allthesamebeer.com

I’ve decided that in addition to my beer reviews, I will try to write about more things in addition to beer on my tumblr. Now, I see how that worked out the first time, but I’m going to try and follow through this time.

In short, allthesamesong.com, the tumblr blog, will be a supplement to my main beer site, allthesamebeer.com. And if you don’t want to visit the new site, you don’t have to, because I’m keeping everything right here, too.

I have just opened allthesamebeer.com. It currently features all 200 of my reviews, and has more powerful search and sort features. I’m still adding things to it, tweaking it, and getting it right.

Cheers, and thanks for reading! See you in a couple of days with a fresh review.
